Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt and has an more Mediterranean ambience. It is located around 255 km from Cairo an was founded by Alexander the Great in 331BC. Alexandria became the capital of Graeco-Roman Egypt and its status as a beacon of culture is symbolized by “Pharos”, the legendary lighthouse that was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Alexandria was also the Centre of knowledge in the Ancient World and today Alexandria is a commercial and maritime centre.

At Alexandria you can relish some of the finest seafood, take a tram to view Roman ruins or drink a café in European style coffee shops and cafes. A walk along the magnificent Corniche sweeps round the curve of the Eastern Harbour and takes you right through the city centre. Alexandria is an international centre of learning as it once housed a library comprising of 500000 volumes.


El Attareen
Mosque
Kom el Dekka is the Roman amphitheatre surrounded by Roman villas and baths and was discovered after over 30 year of excavation of Roman remains. There are several such Roman architectures such as the Villa Al Toyour –the first mosaic museum in Egypt. Then there is the Pompei’s Pillar – a 25 m high red granite column constructed in honour of the Emperor Diocletian. Other remains include two pink granite sphinxes.

At Alexandria you have the Graeco-Roman Museum and the El Attareen Mosque, the Mosque of Abu Al-Abbas Al-Mursi and the Qaitbey Fort. Fascinating beaches and scenery extend west of Alexandria. You can view miles of white sand beaches and azure sea stretching along Egypt’s Mediterranean coast from Alexandria to Mersa Matrouh.
