Combined Finland Tour - 10 Nights / 11 Days

 

Day 1: Helsinki-Porvoo-Ruotsinpyhtää-Langinkoski-Imatra
After breakfast depart by coach for Porvoo, the second oldest town in Finland famous for its charming old warehouses, cobblestone lanes, handicraft shops and the medieval cathedral. Lunch at the old Ruotsinpyhtää ironworks village. Continue to Langinkoski rapids to see the imperial fishing lodge. Dinner and overnight at Rantasipi Hotel Valtionhotelli in Imatra. (L, D)


Day 2: Imatra-Punkaharju-Savonlinna-Valamo-Koli
After breakfast drive through the beautiful Punkaharju esker ridge, an isthmus between two large lakes, and continue to Retretti Art Exhibition featuring classical and contemporary collections, housed partly in an underground cave. After lunch visit the Olavinlinna Castle, the monastery of Valamo and have a cup of tea brewed in the traditional accompanied by old-Russian delicacies. Continue to Koli Hills for a spectacular view of forests and lakes. Overnight at Sokos Hotel Koli in Lieksa. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Koli-Joensuu-Kiihtelysvaara-Tuupovaara-Ilomantsi-Koli
After breakfast visit to a local farmhouse to see wooden architecture, local arts and crafts, listen to music played on Kantele and savour Karelian specialities. Overnight at Sokos Hotel Koli in Lieksa. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Koli-Vuonislahti-Lieksa-Kuhmo
After breakfast leave for Kuhmo. Enroute visit Vuonislahti to see the studio and the little log chapel. In the Ruunaa wilderness close to the Finnish-Russian border, take long wooden boat ride, steered by local fishermen. After lunch proceed to Kalevala village, which offers a fascinating look at the old traditions of the Karelian .Overnight at Hotel Kalevala in Kuhmo. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Kuhmo-Kuusamo
After breakfast take a guided tour of the village, continue northwards to Kuusamo. Visit Julma Ölkky, the deepest canyon lake in the area. Overnight at Spa Hotel Kuusamon Tropiikki in Kuusamo. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Kuusamo-Rovaniemi
After breakfast take an excursion to Lake Kitka. On the way to Rovaniemi, visit the coffee cup museum. See the key sights of Rovaniemi and visit Santa’s Workshop at the Arctic Circle and take part in a Lapp ceremony. Overnight at Hotel Rantasipi Pohjanhovi in Rovaniemi. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Rovaniemi-Särestö-Kittilä
Arrive at Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland. Take a tour to see the works of Finland’s most famous architect Alvar Aalto. Experience the thrill of crossing the magic line of the Arctic Circle and take part in an exotic Lapp initiation ceremony. After lunch at the Arctic Circle, in a Lapp tepee continue northwards along the Ounasjoki River, and stop at the Art Museum of Reidar Särestöniemi. Overnight at Hotel Sirkantähti or similar in Kittilä. (L ,D)

Day 8: Kittilä-Harriniva-Hetta-Kautokeino-Alta
After breakfast set off from Harriniva on board for an exciting and perfectly safe one-hour journey through seven rapids. Continue northwards via Kautokeino, the largest Lapp cultural centre in Norway to the Arctic Ocean and the fishing port of Alta. Overnight at Rica Hotel Alta or Hotel Aurora or similar (B, L, D)

Day 9: Alta-Honningsvåg-North Cape-Honningsvåg
After breakfast take a tour to the famous 6000 year-old rock carvings. Continue towards Honningsvåg reaching the North Cape in the evening to find the Arctic Ocean and the endless scenery. Celebrate this unforgettable moment with sparkling wine and local caviar. Overnight at Rica Hotel Honningsvåg or similar in Honningsvåg. (B, L, D)

Day 10: Honningsväg-Inari-Saariselkä
After breakfast drive along one of the most beautiful Norwegian fjords. Lunch will be en route in the little village of Karasjok. Back in Finland, visit an open air Sami museum in Inari. Visit a local reindeer herder at his home, listen to joiku-singing, and hear about reindeer breeding. Overnight at Hotel Riekonlinna in Saariselkä. (B, L, D)

Day 11: Saariselkä-Tankavaara-Luosto-Rovaniemi-Helsinki
After breakfast head for Tankavaara Gold Village. Relive the thrills of the Gold Rush while washing for gold. Lunch will be taken in Luosto on the way to Rovaniemi airport. Evening flight back to Helsinki. (B, L)
