Hong Kong’s English name is derived from two Chinese characters, ’heung’ & ‘gong’, which translates as ‘fragrant harbour’.

Hong Kong
Originally this was the name of a small settlement near Aberdeen, the main fishing & commercial port on pre-colonial Hong Kong Island. Many historians suggest that Hong Kong’s Chinese name was inspired by its export of incense. Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon peninsula, the New Territories & more than 260 Outlying Islands.

Climate - Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical, tending towards temperate for nearly half the year. During November and December there are pleasant breezes, plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Many people regard these as the best months of the year.
