Day 1: AUCKLAND
Uplift your rental vehicle at the Airport and drive into your central city accommodation for 1 night. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city with a population of 1.3m and sits in between the Manukau and Waitamata Harbours. It is built around over 40 volcano cones, which add to the beautiful landscape. Spend your time exploring Auckland’s highlights including Auckland Museum, Kelly Tarltons .Underwater and Antarctic Centre, views from Mt Eden and One Tree Hill and the waterfront to name a few

Day 2: AUCKLAND – WHANGAREI – PAIHIA (216km / 3hr)
Head north to Bay of Islands in the sunny Northland. Alternative route via East Coast beaches also an option but will add an additional 2hrs to the trip.You could also travel via the marine reserve of Goat Island if you want to try some snorkeling. Also just east of Whangarei is Tutukaka, which is the access to the great diving area of the Poor Knights. We can organize a scuba diving excursion for you from there

Day 3: PAIHIA
Stay in Pahia today and explore the beautiful bay area including Russell and the historic sight of Waitangi. You will board a Fullers boat for the Hole in the Rock & Dolphin Watching cruise in the bay. You may want to drive north today back onto SH1 and through to Cape Reinga, New Zealand’s most northern point. This trip would take 3 hours each way (222km one way)

Day 4: PAIHIA – TAURANGA/MT MAUNGANUI (441km / 6hr)
A long drive today as you head back south today via Tauranga, back through Auckland and over the Hauraki Plains to the portside city of Tauranga, famous for the its surf beach Mt Maunganui. We would suggest that you take the alternative route west to Opononi on the Hokianga Harbour, then into the Waipoua Forrest to view Tane Mahuta, New Zealand’s largest tree at 51m tall with a girth of 13m. This route will ad 2 hours to your total travelling time including stops. Also from Auckland through to Tauranga you could stop at Matamata for a tour of Hobbiton from Lord of the Rings film. Visit the beautiful beaches along the coast of Mt Maugaanui

Day 5: MT MAUNGANUI – TE PUKE (30km / 30min) - ROTORUA (56km / 45min)
Drive through to Te Puke today to visit the Looking Glass Garden - This is a garden on a grand scale – twenty acres spread over valleys and hillsides. Continue onto New Zealand’s geothermal city of Rotorua. Visit highlights of Rotorua including geysers and bubbling mud pools of the geothermal and Maori cultural centre at Te Puia. Rainbow Springs is also very well worth visiting, and children especially are fascinated by the pools of trout and of course the chance to see a real kiwi. They also are open at night which is spectacular under lights and open until 9pm

Day 6: ROTORUA
Visit highlights of Rotorua including the geysers and bubbling mud pools of Te Puia’s geothermal and Maori cultural centre. Drive to Buried Village at Lake Tarawera (location of the burided Pink and White Terraces) and view the Green & Blue Lakes in the evening visit you will drive out to Maitai Maori Village to experience a traditional hangi meal and a cultural show

Day 7: ROTORUA – TAUPO (76km / 1hr) - WELLINGTON (375km / 5hrs)
 Visit the awesome Huka Falls, as an option you could take the Huka Jet up the Waikato River to the base of the falls.It is will worth stopping at Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal park located between Rotorua and Taupo. You may want to take a Chris Jolley Cruise out to view the Maori Carvings on Lake Taupo.This is a 1.5hr trip 10km just out before you reach Taupo on SH5, you will come across a turn off to The Aratiatia Rapids and at several specific times each day spill gates from a dam are opened at the top of the Aratiatia rapids and the narrow gorge fills with turbulent water surging past. There are several excellent vantage points on the high rock bluffs that dominate this turbulent stretch of the river. Continue down the Desert Road past Mt Ruapehu in the Tongariro National Park, then down onto the Kapiti Coast and into Wellington. Discover at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa - five floors of treasured exhibits and interactive displays. It’s an entertaining way to find out about New Zealand, arguably one of the best interactive museums in the world

Day 8: WELLINGTON – PICTON (3 hr ferry) - NELSON (196km / 2hrs 30min)
Drop car at ferry depot and board Inter Island Ferry to Picton for a 3 hour cruise across The Cook Straight and through the spectacular Queen Charlotte Sound. Pick up Rental Car at ferry and drive through to Nelson. Afternoon you will travel into the Abel Tasman National Park or explore Nelsons arty shops or enjoy their boutique restaurants in the evening or visit the World of Wearable Art Museum which is fascinating.

Day 9: NELSON - FRANZ JOSEF (476km / 6hrs 15mins)
Morning leave New Zealand’s sunshine capital, Nelson and start a long drive to the rugged West Coast, through the mining towns of Greymouth/Hokitika. On the way you will stop at around lunch time to view the famous Pancake Rocks and Blowholes of Punakaiki, then arrive Franz Josef. Relax in the evening and indulge yourself at the Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools

Day 10: FRANZ JOSEF – WANAKA (262km / 3hrs 30min) – QUEENSTOWN (70km / 1hr – over Crown Range)
In the morning you could take a walk onto Fox Glacier and explore the surrounding area. You may want to take a Heli Hiking option which involves a 3 hour hike from the ice fall, or take in one of the scenic flights over the glaciers and Mt Cook/Aoraki ($300 per person). You have time to explore this area before continuing on a 3.5 hour drive through Haast Pass and into the spectacular Wanaka Lake district. Wanaka is located on a very picturesque lake, on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park. Head across the Crown Range and into Queenstown .Stop at the very remote and quant Cardrona Pub, which is very popular with skiers in winter. Travel to the top of the Gondola for the most spectacular views of Queenstown and the Wakitipu Basin

Day 11: QUEENSTOWN
Start the day with an exhilarating jet boat ride on the Shotover Jet through the river canyon. Today is a rest day explore Queenstown to do optional activities including cruise on Lake Wakitipu, winery tours or even a bungy jump for the more adventurous. You could take half day the Lord of the Rings tour to visit 20 locations of the movie You may want to drive out to lunch at Gibston Valley Wines for a tour of their unique cave wine cellar.Located 10km from Queenstown are the Onsen Hot Pools, where you can soak up in a tub in the with the great views out at Arthurs Point

Day 12: QUEENSTOWN - MILFORD SOUND – TE ANAU (406km / 5hr 30min)
 An early morning start today as head around the lake on SH6 through to SH94, and drive through the Fiordland National Park and into the spectacular Milford Sound You will then be taken on a 2.5hour cruise through the Milford Sound a cruise with Real Journey’s. Return to Te Anau for a relaxing evening where you will take a tour to explore the Te Anau Glowworm Caves located just across the lake

Day 13: TE ANAU – MT COOK (422km 5hr 45min )
A spectacular drive awaits you today as you head out over SH6 to Cromwell, then change onto SH80 through the mountain ranges following onto SH80 which will take you to Mt Cook/Aoraki, New Zealand’s highest mountain.  In the afternoon you will take the wonderful Glacier Boat tour to view the icebergs and glacier on
Lake Tasman (operates Oct – May only). In the evening you may want to visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre or the Planetarium. There are many guided and unguided walks available with the national park of varying grades if
you are feeling energetic.(B)

Day 14: MT COOK – LAKE TEKAPO (102km / 1hr 15min) – CHRISTCHURCH (230km / 3hr)
Travel east via the very picturesque Lake Tekapo, then out over the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Explore the city and visit some of the scenic highlights including Sumner Beach, Lyttleton Harbour, Brighton Pier, Cathedral Square or just meander the city on the trams or by foot. Christchurch has some fantastic gardens, including the Christchurch Botanical Gardens located in Hagley Park.You may want to visit the Antarctic Centre located near the airport, with penguins and other points of interest about this harsh environment. Try the Luxury Tram for dinner, or travel up into the Cashmere Hills to the Sign of the Takehe

    • The minimum rental age is 21 years. There is no maximum rental age. All intending drivers must present a valid full national driving license, which has been held for at least one year.

    • A current International Driving License must accompany driving licenses issued in a language other than English

    • Cancellations: 7 or more days before departure loss of deposit. Within 7 days of departure a 50% penalty of the tour cost will apply. No refund will be due within 24 hours of travel date. Some charges may vary depending on penalties imposed by individual suppliers.

    • Amendments: All tours may be extended or amended provided that these arrangements are made more than 7 days prior to departure. After a booking has been confirmed, one amendment is permitted free of charge. Further amendments will incur a fee of NZ$100 per change of file. Once travel documents have been prepared (approx 7 days before arrival), any amendments will incur appropriate fees for our services and in accordance with the policies of our suppliers.

    • Availability: All arrangements are strictly subject to availability at the time of booking. Due to peak season demands from November through to March, early booking is recommended.
