Aegean region

The Aegean region has the loveliest shores in the country. The beautiful coastline on the Aegean sea, is abound by unspoilt beaches, which are surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pine woods. Harbours, holiday resorts along with historical monuments are found all along the coast. The coastline enjoys a mild climate. The mountains of the Aegean Region are perpendicular to the coast. For water sports summer months are good, spring and autumn are good for exploring the ancient ruins. The winter months are sunny and pleasant here.

Cities are concentrated on the coastline for tourism and its harbours for sea transportation. Main products are; textile, leather, carpet weaving, food, machinery and spare parts, marble, tobacco, sugar, olive and olive oil.

Izmir
Izmir is the third largest city and second biggest port in Turkey. The city is in Horizontal terraces, which gently ascend the slopes of the surrounding mountains. It has palm lined promenades and streets. Izmir is a lively city becoming more so during its International Arts festival held in June/July and the International Fair in August/ September.

Aydin
Aydin is a major city in the Aegean Region. It has been as a centre for sculpture. Aydin is known for its Mineral Springs and Spas, with their diverse curing properties.

Kutahya and Aizanoi
Kutahya in the middle of hill country. Built around an impressive hilltop fortress. The world famous Yagcibedir carpets come from here. One may visit the workshops at the factories. Kutahya is a thermal spring centre. Camping facilities at Murat Mountain where there are Hot Springs.

Mugla
Mugla is an ideal destination for holiday goers. In Mugla besides winter sports all kinds of holidays can be enjoyed here. Here there are lots of Historical sites having traces of the civilizations that had made Mugla its home. The Beaches provide for water sports, in the unspoiled bay and clear waters.

Gokova
The Gulf of Gokova is a fascinating corner of Turkey. Superb coastlines covered with woodlands, in numerous shades of green and the sea in blue. At sun set the sky is lit up in hues of red and yellow. Take a boat ride down the Gulf and admire the beauty of the place with its vibrant colours.

Koycegiz – Dalyan
Koycegiz is close to its namesake lake, the tip of which touches the Mediterranean. This is now a Nature and Wild Life Preserve. Cruise through the criss-crossing channels that link the lake to the sea. The Dlayan delta is a unique site, with its golden beaches. Here you will find sea turtles of Caretta and blue crabs.

Afyon
Afyon is the gateway between the Aegean sea and the inner regions of Anatolia. Afyon is famous for its popular desserts ‘Turkish Delight’ and ‘Kaymak’. Afyon is a Spa-centre with thermal bathes. Sandikli is famous for its mud baths. There are some monumental cult rocks.

Denizli
Denizli is inland in the Aegean Region of Turkey. The wide forests with its numerous camping sites here contribute to this natural and archaeological richness. Hierapolis is another ancient city, being a historical treasure, while it also offers a real wonder of nature. Named as "Pamukkale" (meaning Cotton Castle in Turkish) this place is astonishingly beautiful and unique in the world with its white travertine offering marvelous scenery.
