Eastern Mediterranean coast
Mersin
Midway on the eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey is Mersin. Mersin is the largest free-zone port on the Turkish Mediterranean. Besides growing towards modernization Mersin has numerous historical sites.

Kizkalesi
Kizkalesi is a fine beach resort which has camp sites for holiday makers. Famous for its Roman mosaic called the Three Beauties. A sea wall separates the Castle of Korykos and Maiden’s Castle. Narlikuyu is a little fishing village, on a bay lined with sea food restaurants. Cennet or Heaven is a natural cave at the bottom of the valley, and a deep chasm called Ceyhennem or Hell. The deep Narlikuyu Cave is full of Stalagmite and stalactites formations. Steps have been carved by the Romans leading down to the cave.
Silifke
Silifke is based at a foothill, slightly inland. In town there is an ancient Roman bridge across Goksu. In its Delta there are over 300 species of birds that are protected.
Ovacik
Ovacik a quaint spot with a fisherman’s wharf and beach. The Ovacik Peninsula is ideal for driving. At Aydincik, the sailing waters, marked as yacht safe, make for the most breathtaking stretch of coast. The shore road that clings to the pine clad mountain, offers spectacular views of cliffs, coves and brilliant turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
Anamur
Anamur is surrounded by banana plantation, nestled in the mountains. Anamur castle with its splendid location between two curving sandy beaches is a well preserved castle, commanding a splendid view of the coastline.
Tarsus
Tarsus is the birth place of St. Paul. Amongst its Archeological remains are bronze weapons, the Cleopatra Gate, a Hittite temple, an ancient church, the Ottoman Ulu Cami, and the Kubat Pasa theological school. In Natural surroundings of little streams, waterfalls and shady trees are the Tarsus Falls. Eucalyptus tree groves at Karaburcak Park envelop it in its fragrance completely.
Adana
The fourth largest city of Turkey. Originally a 21 arch bridge of which 14 arches are remaining spans the Seyhan river, which bisects the town of Adana. Seyhan Dam and Lake located north of the city has quaint tea gardens is a cool place for walks. Fine view during sunset. Yumurtalik a beach with a harbor castle.
Karatepe National park
At Karatepe National Park you will find the remains of the summer residence of King Asitwada, an open air museum housing bas – relief’s, two bull statues and one statue which has a lion’s head and a body of a human. In this region are the Plains of Issos where Alexander the Great defeated Darius III, today the area is covered with large citrus groves, of oranges, tangerines and lemons.
Iskenderun
Iskenderun formerly Alexandretta, was founded by Alexander the Great. Iskenderun is a port town with a fine harbor and a busy commercial centre of Turkey.
Antakya
Antakya is situated on the banks of Asi River surrounded by mountains. Antakya Archeology Museum has the richest collection of Roman mosaics in the world. Grotto of Peter the apostle, the church is declared a sacred site by The Vatican. Set high the castle of Antioch, has superb views of the city and the surrounding.
