Mediterranean region

South of Turkey, getting its name from the Mediterranean Sea, is its Mediterranean Region. This region is the ‘Pearl of Turkey’ with its outstretched beaches and serene bays to the high reaching pine clad Taurus Mountains, which run parallel to the coast line. A paradise for water sports lovers. With important historical sites set in a landscape of beautiful pine forests. (Olive and citrus groves and palm, avocado and banana plantations). The Turkish Riviera – the Mediterranean region is the tourism capital of Turkey.

ANTALYA
An amazingly beautiful Antalya has a sharp contrast of natural beauty. Exotic colorful flowers adorn its gardens and parks. Shimmering waters of the bay with mountains in the backdrop has made this a popular tourist resort in this region. During March & April Ski on the slopes of the Bakirli Mountain in the morning and wind surf in the afternoon at the bay or just get a tan.

Upper Duden Waterfalls (14 Km) walk from behind the cascading waterfall for a thrilling experience.

Sican with its camping grounds is a lovely island. Enjoy a panoramic view from the revolving restaurant on Tunektepe Hill.
Saklikent (50 Km) on Bakirli Mountain is an ideal place for winter sports. (Mar to Apr)
Duzler Cami Park watch wild life under conservation programme.
Guver Canyon an astonishing 115 m. deep canyon.
Karain Caves (30 Km) site of the oldest settlement in Turkey. A single entrance to the cave is lit up by the sun, opening into three large interconnected chambers.
Perched on a high plateau are the ruins of Termessos.

NORTH OF ANTALYA

BURDUR Well known for its beautiful lakes where nature is the option and for its carpets and kilims. Burder lake is an excellent spot for water sports and for its lovely beaches just for swimming. Insuyu Caves has nine distinct chambers filled stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Isparta A city of lakes and lovely coastal areas with an exuberance of wild flowers. The Rose Garden produces oil for the cosmetic industry, which surrounds the city filling it with its sweet fragrance.

Yalvac Walk down the marble streets of Yalvac visiting the St. Paul’s Basilica, Augustus Temple. Kizildag National Park to Yalvac’s south has giant cedar trees making it one of Turkey’s splendid Landscapes.

WEST OF ANTALYA

KEMER

Kemer marina is fully equipped to enjoy the full potential of the bay. Hidden amongst pines the bay is a delight for sports lovers. A “Blue Flag” beach (signifies specially clean beach by the European Union). There are other blue flag beaches offering various activities.

Olympos
Olympos is shaded by Oleander and Laurel bushes. Approachable by land and sea. At Yanartas Gas seeps from the earth burning brightly at night. Bay of Cavus water ski on its tranquil waters, discover the marine life and explore the sea caves.

Kas
In a beautiful setting Kas is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Excellent for diving to explore the under water, and for swimming. Stroll along, shop or relax at the flower and palm tree lined Promenade, or Climb the highest peaks in the area Mt. Kizlar Sivrisi (3086 m.)or Mt. Akdag (3030 m.).

Patara
Patara has been the birth place of the Sun God Apollo and St. Nicholas. Of interest are its numerous ruins, the theater and a three arch gate. Patara’s 22 Km of white sand beach makes it a natural choice for various kinds of beach sports and activities.

East of Antalya
To the east of Antalya lies a fertile plain running parallel to the endless sandy beaches. Modern tourist facilities and well preserved historical sites give the tourist a number of options to choose from.
Belek (40 Km from Antalya)
Golfer’s Paradise is Belek, with its National Golf Club located here. Belek features a wide variety of water sports as well. Sample some of Turkey’s finest cuisine and enjoy Open Air Discos for evening entertainment.
Aspendos (49 Km from Antalya)
Aspendos is home to the best preserved Antiquity Theater, which is still in use, with a seating capacity of 15000. The Theatre reflects the ability of the architect Zenon, in its galleries, stage decorations and the acoustics. Aspendos Jewelry Centre is worth a visit and watch jewelry being made at every stage.
Koprulu Canyon National park (92 Km. from Antalya)
A drive on a beautiful circular scenic route leads you up to the Koprulr Canyon National Park, from Antalya and gets you back via the other side. A beautiful valley rich in its flora and fauna the canyon stretches for 14 Km. along the Kopru River and is as deep as 400m. at certain places. Oluk Bridge spanning the Canyon is an engineering feat of the Romans.
Side
Side is one of the best Classical harbor cities in Turkey. Numerous visitors come to see its ancient ruins; the magnificent theatre built on colonnaded arches, The Temple of Apollo. On the East side are the holiday resorts know for there shimmering waters and fine beaches, with an endless array of unforgettable activities to choose from.
Altinbesik Cave National park
One of Turkey’s interesting and popular caves, having interesting rock formations, as well as travertine’s and streams make the Altinbesik Cave National Park especially fascinating.
Alanya
Perched on a high ridge is Alanya. This rocky promontory juts out into the Mediterranean with sandy beaches on either side and is crowned by the Seljuk Fortress. This is one of the most impressive sights on the Mediterranean. Damlatas cave is an old cave having multicolored stalagmite and stalactite formation.
