One hundred years ago, on July 24th 1911, the American historian Hiram Bingham arrived to the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, an architectural treasure that remained hidden for over four centuries under the lush vegetation of the Urubamba canyon, until the Yale professor unveiled it to the world.
Compact Travels has put together a special group departure that will visit Machu Picchu on the actual anniversary date of this majestic Inca citadel, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its discovery and to celebrate with us the greatness of one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Writer and researcher Christopher Heaney, author of Cradle of Gold: The Story of Hiram Bingham, a Real-Life Indiana Jones and the Search for Machu Picchu (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010), will join and lead this special group departure allowing our guests to experience Machu Picchu in a very special way and to learn the most interesting and hidden facts about Machu Picchu, Hiram Bingham and his quest for the lost city of the Incas.
